I ordered by '02 on 6/6. I just today checked with my dealer on the status
and he said he would check the coding on the order. A= allocated
D=delivery and G= ground. Well, my order has not even been allocated yet
and he says that it will be at least a month more and maybe even two or
three before I get my car. My deposit contract with them ends at the end of
this month. He offered to give me back my deposit or use it to buy another
Toyota, or even to buy their '01 used TRAC car. (for MSRP, but it has 10K
miles and no air bags or CC). So now I have to decide if I want to continue
to wait or get my money back. It looks like the wait times are going to be
a lot longer than any of us had thought.

Ken

Likely you will receive other responses on this which may be more coherent than mine. The thing that sounds a bit odd here is the "deposit contract with them ends at the end of this month". First I have ever heard of a ?deposit contract?. Most have put down a deposit, gotten a PR#, waited for the car, got a few goodies from Toyota while waiting, then got the car IF the order was actually entered which if done correctly always results in a valid PR#.
Do you have a PR#, that is a Purchase Request Number? If not, I would suggest that these folks are trying to pull a number on you. Have you received an e-mail from Toyota, an owner's manual, anything? while waiting for this vehicle. A Purchase Order Number would at least indicate that the dealer actually, in fact, really ordered the vehicle.
The offer to sell you a car off the shelf, right now, lends further suspicion.
What is the name of the dealer and where are you located?
Something just doesn?t sound right.

The Prii that come here to me usually dont even show up in category "A". if they do-not for more than a day. Your car doesnt even have a serial # until just before it arrives, its assigned here in the U.S.. You can be assured that wait times were bound to be longer just from the fact that you all have the ability to customize the car to a much greater extent for 02. Now the national emergency has closed ports (on the east coast anyway) as well. Our region has already told us that all inventory will be held up, slowed down. Rails are restricted and NY harbor is closed-(east coast Toyota ships unload in NY first before proceeding to BAlt.) I'm sure rails and harbors nationwide will be off schedule for a while.

Ken,

This dealer might be trying to pull something on you...

I ordered mine on 6/19. I had to supposedly put a $500 deposit down but they accepted my CC #- and thus far they haven't charged the card yet.

Like some others responding to your msg I have never heard of a deposit contract. That's fairly limiting if your only two choices are to sit and wait for the Prius or use the money to buy another Toyota. My two cents would be to take the issue up with Toyota customer support (had fairly good response with them)- otherwise you're just butting heads with the dealership.

PUSH Toyota Cust. support to get you that magic PR #. Customer Support can find out all the info that a dealer can on your Prius, and usually are a lot more willing to help you. If they can't or won't do so then I would fight to get your deposit back and find another dealership.

Good luck.

Gary
"Brilliant Blue in '02"

Gary,

Actually, I did get a PR# and my dealer faxed me a screen print of the order. Also Toyota sent me an email and a manual. The deposit contract states that if I don't receive the car in 120 days, I have the right to ask for the deposit back with interest, or I can apply it towards another car. They are willing to give me my deposit back with interest, but they will also keep it if I want them to and wait for the car. But they do say that it may be a few more months.

Ken

Brian (Toyobri),

Have you heard if the port in Newark is open again? Have you heard anything about Prius ships arriving? Apparently one came before 9/11 since my dealer in NH recently got two MY02 TRAC cars. But not mine :-(

Thanks,

Burns
