Ok, I recently purchased a 1991 Toyota pickup that had been setting for at least a year without being started. I replaced the battery, checked the fluids etc... tried to start the truck and it would turn over but wouldn't start. I checked the wire from the coil and the connection to the coil was corroded pretty bad so I replaced the coil. Finaly broke out the starter fluid and had some success, the truck will start on starter fluid(will not start without it) and will keep running at idle if I hold the airflow meter open, however, if I try to throttle up or let the flap in the airflow meter close it stalls and I have to repeat the process to start it again. Any idea as to what would cause this problem? Could old gas be the problem or a clogged fuel filter? Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

I emptied aprox. half of what was in the tank today, the gas had an odd smell and was the color of beer(dark amberish) which I'm pretty sure isn't normal. I'll empty the rest tomorrow and put fresh in and see what happens.

Suggest you check if the fuel-rail has a pressure release valve (looks like a tire stem). If you press it and there's pressure then it should start and the problem is elsewhere. Fuel pump failure usually starts with highway driving....not initial starting.
If there's no stem, then turn it over for a minute or so and pull out a plug and see if it's wet.
Dropping the tank and replacing the pump is not that hard. Just don't forget to replace the filter at the same time.

Ok, I disconnected the fuel line and jumped the fp and b+ in the diagnostic port and the only fuel that came out was in the line and just trickled out. The line had no pressure on it at all. Does this mean it is defintely the fuel pump?

The fuel pump turns on when the flapper is open in the MAFS.
Check for fuel pressure at the cold start injector. Run the pump for a bit, then crack the banjo fitting and fuel should come squirting out.
If the fuel in it was that bad, the fuel pressure regulator and the injectors might be clogged up. You can get the injectors cleaned at a shop like RC Engineering. While I have them out, I would clean everything else, like the fuel rails, with carb cleaner.
