I need some help with a driver's side door mirror. My mirror has gone milky white on me and I can't see out of it safely. The rest of the mirror assembly is good. The heater works, the adjustment is fine and the housing is good. I just need to replace the actual mirror part.
My windshield and mirror repair guy tells me I need to replace the entire assembly at a cost of +/- $300 for OEM because this mirror can't be disassembled and repaired. I really don't want to do that unless it's absolutely necessary because of the cost (obviously) and it's just such a waste to do all that and spend so much money to fix what should be a relatively cheap and easy repair.
I can see behind the mirror when I adjust it out and there are modular plugs and etc that would seem to indicate that this mirror did not just "grow" inside the housing. I just know there's a way to get this mirror and maybe its attachment out of there without removing everything from the door and replacing the whole unit.
Can anyone get me started on removing this mirror only if possible and maybe point in the direction of buying a replacement?
Thanks a bunch,
hudlow
