you might need to reset your engine back to base timing,, do you have a subscription to "all data " it is a on line "car specific" manual that you have to pay 16$ u.s. it will show you all you need to know about your specific year car. but back to base timing. it might have been thrown of with your meeger attampt to keep up with 8 cylinders,"not a really good idea". anyway , disconnect your battery for about 3 minutes and then re-connect it. but then you have to drive the car for about twenty minutes around town and then on the freeway for about say ten minutes. the will help the ecu to re-learn the engine parameters, plus you might have to replace your knock sensor. someone said something about "rods" there are no rods in you engine.if it is a 1zz-fe engine all you have are 2 cams and buckets between the valve and cam lobes. but you might want to check out your valve springs one or some of them might be broken. if so you might have even worse a problem. since the springs might be broken you could have the valves slapping the top of your pistons, because now the are drropping too far down the cylinder. that means BIG MONEY ENGINE REPLACEMENT,..... sorry.
