Yes, I know that the prizm is not exactly a Toyota, but its engine is. I have about 101000 miles and it uses oil at an astronomical rate. I know that trying to get the feel for this online is difficuly, but maybe someone has some ideas.
I got this car with 88000 miles on it from a used car lot and after two weeks I had to add 2 qt of oil. and now every time I add gas I add 1-2 qt oil. It has been suggested that the oil is going past the valve guides. When I back off the gas there is some smoke, but not on accleration.
Aside from selling the car or completely rebuilding the top end what can I do?
Thank you in advance and I hope that all have a good new year.

So let's put it this way to find out what to do when I drive into a gas station I say" Fill it with oil and check the gas"

Seems this forum isn't so active huh? Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but have you checked to see if it's leaking oil? And are you sure the smoke you see is black? Black smoke generally has something to do with gas. Blue smoke generally has something to do with oil (I know...hard to tell if you aren't used to looking for it). On deceleration it sounds like it would be worn valve guides though. Just my 2 cents. Hope all works out. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/s12.gif)
