ive recently bought a 85 4 runner, never having had one before, am interested in finding out how reliable and well they preform, i am doing a couple of trips into remote WA and am a little concerned about them being a small eng, [deisel] i am a motor mech, and have done a heck of a lot of a mintenance, ive had a look at some 4wd sites but all they talk about is crisers and patrols and these new modern bigger 4wd's being a mech, i only ever see the bad side of cars, so i would be grateful if i could get some feedback as to how they preform, and if anyone knows where i can get a power steering pump and pulley at a rasonable price, i would be grateful.

Welcome to the group. I have been eavesdropping on this group for about 3 years now since I bought my 92 'Runner, and I can tell you that you have nothing to fear when it comes to Toyota reliability. They last and last and the truck is solidly. Many people attest to this. I see not many postings about break-downs (out of the ordinary that you would expect). About the parts, I can not help. I live in Mexico and I haven't needed parts. Of course, I just totalled mine, so I won't be needing parts in the future either.. :-( Jay
