I have just purchased a 1988 2wd toyota pickup and love it. it drives really good and has alot of pickup and go. I have a problem with it and hope the members of this forum can help. It is hard to start. It will crank forever. But if you squirt a little starting fluid in the air cleaner, it starts right up. I have checked the timing and it is ok, the plugs are good and the wires are good. I am wondering if it is the fuel pump going out? How can I check it out to determine what is going bad?

Hello, you could replace the fuel filter if have not done it yet. The fuel filter is one of those things that should be changed from time to time, but is often overlooked. While you have the fuel line disconnected to change the fuel filter have a friend turn the key the fuel should pump out with pretty good force. I would pump it into a bucket so you don't shoot fuel all over the ground.
