Hello everyone!

I am at the end of my rope with this car :S It is a 1990 Tercel Hatchback.

The car runs however if i let it sit and idle it dies and is hard to start again after. Usually after it dies you have to wait about an hour to start it up again.

When driving the car it sounds as if it is only running on 3 cylinders and is really boggy and hesitates lots.

I started by getting an oil change and changing the spark plugs which didnt help matters; I have replaced the fuel pump with no success; the distributor/roder/cap/wires with no success.

I smell fuel when the car is running (not strong, but its definately there) and there is "gunk" on the block.

Somebody please please please help me out!

sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. check all the rubber hoses going from and going to the engine. Gunk on the motor means blowby from oil fumes....check your PVC valve.

fuel smell.. check around the base of the carb. you may have a base gasket leak issue.

fuel injected cars are controlled by a computer chip....are you getting a " check engine " light on your dash?....if you rev the gas and keep the revs up does it still stall or does it run fairly smooth?

There is no engine check light on.

If you rev it high it will run until you let off. After you let off it will idle for only a couple of seconds before it dies again.

Just as the last reply indicated, I think it is the carburetor.
