I need some help. I have an opportunity to pick up my friends 1992 Cressida.
It has just over 31,000 orig miles on it and I think I would be rather stupid if
I didn't buy it. However, I want to know if you guys know of any possible issues
as a result of such low miles. I have often heard that vehicle with such low miles
could have gasket and seal issues. Is this true and if so, what and where should
I be looking?
Thanks for your help.

Well I am not sure, but know a few people who have bought older cars with low miles from older people who didnt drive it much. It is a win win situation and they have been very pleased with the price and condition of the cars. Is this from an elderly person? :)

Sounds like a great deal to me. If you're worried, you can always take it to someone you trust to have it checked out. I would recommend that with any used car.

One problem i have heard of is tires being kinda dry rotted and needing replaced because they ha just sat for so long, but nothing on the leaking gasket from sitting for a time period. Have you found anything out yet? Hope all is well.

Hey, if the only thing you've got to worry about with the car is replacing the tires, then I think it's a great deal. Yeah, that's not cheap, but it's not something that's going to keep happening over and over again, either.

I agree with Gigi and Yabba, if your biggest problem is tires, that's no problem! Have a mechanic look it over. If all is well buy it!

VERY VERY worth it! things to watch out for:

-head gasket
-get plugs and possibly wires changed
-belts could be going after such a long time
-tires as well are worth a check
-replace oil, tranny fluid and differential fluid if hasn't been done in a while
-listen for any differential noises before you buy
-get the brakes checked, the calipers like to seize and trash your rotors on these cars

finally, since its a 7M engine, expect the head gasket to blow if it hasn't already. save up some cash to get that done at some point. keep a watch for coolant disappearing, white fog-like exhaust, milky/sludge buildup under your oil cap and on the oil dipstick.

I'm with zero_gravity , good info there ...

I also wanted to add that the thermostat can get stuck open or closed after all that time of sitting . I would look into changing the coolant and the thermostat .
