I bought a 93 corolla with a 5 speed and what was left of a 4afe engine in the trunk. All I have is the top end, manifolds, and accessories. I have no block, pan, oil pump, or any of the lower end of the engine as the previous owner threw it all out. I have in my garage a complete engine that is being rebuilt for my 1991 corolla but is still in the beginning stages, so its not together yet. My questions are as follows

1. Is the block from the 91 something that I could use with the 93 head, cams, oil pump, etc in the 93 car?

2. Will I have any issues using the older block as far as my accessories go?

The reason I am wondering this is because I already have all the stuff to build this engine and its gonna cost me like 700 to order another engine from the internet. I have heard that the shortblocks aside from the oil pump are the same and the heads and oil pump are the only difference but I need to know for sure. If possible, could someone please enlighten this new guy here. I am changing over from 350 and 305 chevy V-8's here so I'm learning as I go.

Hi Pal,

You are referring to a 1991 Corolla (AE090) and 1993 Corolla (AE100). The 2 Corolla differ from each other because one has a smaller body and the other is so referred as the 'big body'.

Both have 4Afe engines with 1.6 liter displacement. Most of the parts are interchangeable. The only thing that would matter most is the engine block. If you transfer the engine block of the 1991 to 1993 or vice versa would mean some changes in the cars' registration papers. Though I do not exactly know how things are done in your country especially concerning car registration but in the Philippines, there are procedures and some requirements to be followed.

Under carriage parts are also similar to each other year models of the cars,
