Hello,
I'm a newbie to this forum and I really hope some of you fellow Toyota owners may be able to shine some light on this problem. I recently got a '93 Corolla from my father-in-law. He informed me ahead of time that it needed new brake and fuel lines so I had a local mechanic replace them. After the job was done, I picked the car up and drove it to and from work last Friday and to the car wash. It ran great, no signs of any issues whatsoever. Then on Saturday morning, I had to make an hour drive for a meeting. The car drove fine the entire way there. Then on the return trip, about 3/4 of the way home, the car started to "jump" and the RPMs dropped from about 2500 down to nothing. Then it picked back up and continued to run a short way further, then did it again and the "check engine" light came on and then it stalled completely. I let it set for a few minutes and then it started up again and ran a little further. Then it did it again. This continued a few more times until I was able to get it to the parking lot where my wife works (there is a garage with a hoist there). So I parked it and on Sunday, I changed the fuel filter as I was told that it sounded like that was what could be causing it. Afterwards, I test drove it about 10 miles down the highway and back and it was fine. Drove to work on Monday and Tuesday, no problems at all. Then on Tuesday night, I had to go to another meeting at the same place an hour away. Again, the car drove great the entire way there and again, it stalled out about 3/4 of the way home. This time I called a wrecker to tow it to the mechanic's shop where I had the lines replaced. I spoke to the mechanic on Wednesday morning and when I explained the situation to him, he replied, "I don't normally work on that sh--." (Great people skills, especially after I dropped $1150 in his shop for new lines Ü) He said that he hooked a scanner up to it and was not able to pull any code off of it. He also said that it could possibly be a bad ignitor in the distributer, but that I needed to take it somewhere else and he recommended another place. Before I go spending money I don't have to have someone tear it apart, I thought I'd look online. I can't seem to find any identical situations when i googled it, so I'm really hoping someone here can help. Sorry for writing a book - just thought the more thorough I could be, the better. Thanks much

Did your fuel filter get replaced ? ? ? That's how mine act when mostly plugged.

Hi, yes, I replaced the fuel filter. That was what I thought too, but it did it again only 2 days later.

It seems that maybe the fuel pump is bad? That is how my Mazda Millenia acted before I replaced it. Just a thought....
