(IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) A while ago, my seat belt light would not go off. I took my 1994 Tercel to my crusty mechanic and he got the seat belt light to go off, but then the airbag light came on and it won't go off. EEKKKK. This is making me crazy! Any ideas as to how to fix this?

Welcome to the forum Val !!

"crusty mechanic" LoL. Maybe you need "crusty-the-clown."

Does your mechanic take any responsibility for this ? Suggest you ask him exactly what he did to make the seatbelt light go off. Have you tested the seat belt light so that it "does" come on (like go for a spin without the belt latched, it should go on). Because if it doesn't come on then he truly didn't fix anything.

Hum...well...not exactly. The seat belt light does come on if I don't buckle my seat belt...which is good. My memory is faulty...now I remember! It was not the seat belt light. My check engine light was on and Crusty got it to turn off, but then the airbag light came on. Crusty said that the check engine light came on because the exhaust was probably questionable...since my car was made in CA, he thinks the pollution control do-hicky went off, causing the check engine light to go off. Crusty has since been let go at the station. But I am going to be selling the car and want to get the airbag light to quit seeing red. To the best of my knowledge, nothing is wrong with the car. It works like a charm.

Oh ok. Thanks for the clarification Val.

Therefore, I would seriously advise you to take the vehicle in for servicing. Airbags are not something anyone should tinker with, they are a safety device.

If the airbag light is on, and as you say its not related to the other lights coming on, then I would not want my daughter to purchase the car (to put this into perspective). Please take it for servicing.

On the "check-engine-light" thing, it sounds like your mechanic looked at the OBD II code reading that came from the PCM module and concluded a faulty sensor in your exhaust system. If your light is off (and he hasn't fixed anything) it's because you can reset your PCM (computer) and the problem is intermittent. I will bet you dollars to a Canadian Donut that your check light will come on again...soon.

If you're willing to invest in an OBD reader (approx $150) you can troubleshoot your engine 10 times easier in future.

But, in conclusion, please get your airbag system fixed.
