Hi there. I'm looking for a 3rd opinion as to what an acceptable oil-pressure range is for my 95 tercel. The Toyota manual says it should be 43psi or more at idle, and 36-71 psi at 3000 rpms. Mine is only around 30psi at idle, but well within the 36-71psi at 3000rpm range. However, a mechanic told me that 30 psi at idle is good. That's nice to hear, but then I don't know what to make of the 43psi spec in the Toyota manual. Anyone have anything to add? Thanks.

Hi Jim. The genuine Toyota manual says a minimum 4.3 psi at idle. Sounds low but that is what all of the older manuals state.
As far as the E series engines go (Tercel,Paseo), the oil rings gum up and cause them to burn excessive amounts of oil.
Other than that they are a good engine, but that in my mind makes them Toyotas worst.
As I stated before they are still twice as good as any north american engine.
Just to be clear... I live and breathe TOYOTA. It is the only vehicle I will own, and the only type I like to make a living at working on.
I have access to 1990 and up manuals online.

If you have any more questions just email. me trypolar@hotmail.com
