Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I am having
with my 1996 4-Runner V6 SR5. It has about 150k miles on it, I've
performed all major tune-ups at Toyota dealerships and recently
brought it in this summer for another "major service".
For the most part, the car still runs great and when the engine is
cold it starts up beautifully with no problems. However, if the
engine is warm and I turn the engine off (e.g. to run into a store or
something), when I come back and turn the car on again, the engine
will start up fine but then almost immediately idle back down to zero
and stall-out unless I press the gas pedal and force more gas into
the system.
More alarmingly, a few times when I was driving and "coasting"
without depressing the gas pedal the engine idled down to zero and
stalled-out, forcing me to restart the engine while in motion! This
has only happened a few times but has gotten me a bit worried. When
at a complete stop, the engine seems to stabilize at an idle speed of
around 500-600 rpms.
Again, this only seems to happen when the engine is warm. Any advice
on what the problem could be?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
