I'm a new member here and was hoping someone could answer this question for me.

At around 130k miles, my 96 Camry odometer suddenly started counting in kilometers (1.6 times faster than miles). I have no idea why this started, or how to fix it. I tried removing the battery for a few minutes and playing around with the odometer resetter knob for a little while, and it is still counting in kilometers.

Any suggestions?

Sorry to tell you that the only thing you can do is replace the speedometer/odometer, or.... simply ignore it. If it were my car, based on the high mileage and the cost and difficulty of replacing the speedometer, I would go to either a Toyota dealer or a local speedometer repair shop and get an estimate of the cost of replacement and a statement from them indicating the problem and the present mileage. The reason for the statement is that, in many states, when selling a car, you have to cerify that the odometer reading is accurate (and its actual reading) or that it's broken and has been certified as such. In addition, I don't know what the inspection laws are in Georgia, but in NY, during an annual car inspection, the actual mileage has to be interred into the system. A broken odometer here would probably fail a car on inspection. Check the laws in Georgia. Good luck. Hy
