Hello I'm picking up a 97 runner 3.4 a/t tomorrow and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for me. It has new brakes and timing belt, just curios about what to expect/worry about (175000 miles) thanks!

Not really. If you have the maintenance records everything should be fine. But it looks like it's due for another timing belt change at 180K miles. When was the last belt done?

At 125000 (According to timing cover tag) is swapping one out best left to the pros are at home mechs. doing these?

I'm also wondering about mods, were do you buy your parts. I've owned a few v8 chevys and love what K@N air box replacements due for the v8 are they worth it on 6cyl.? What exhaust types does anybody recomend (not to obnoxious).

I would let the pros do the belt. Don't get the K&N, it'll foul up the MAF sensor if overoiled, also, I personally think the K&N lets in too much dirt. If you're looking for aftermarket accessories check out burtmanindustries.com

The notion that a K&N lets more dirt in a is a myth. It will, however, foul out your MAF if you overoil it.
Other than the timing belt replacement, I wouldnt worry about anything. Afterall, its a Toyota. The whole reason you bought it is so that you wouldnt have to worry about constant breakdowns.

You may what to check out Downey Off-road. I've bought the intake, and headers for my 1990 3.0L. I'm looking at sending in my intake manifold, throttle body, MAF sensor and computer for upgrade work. I noticed a difference after installing the intake on mine...so it should make a difference on your 1997. Since your long out of warranty, then you can do whatever you want, that's what I love about the older vehicles in general. I'm also running 265,000 miles on mine and she runs strong still!
