Hi,
I'm new here and I'm interested in brakes for an old toyota corolla (1998) that is new to me. The brakes seem to have a long pedal - they work its just the feel is somewhat suspect to me. I have an 07 Prius and if I used the brakes on it like I have to on the corolla I'd be thru the windshield! The pedal seems firm and short with the car off - I start it and the pedal gets about 2 inches longer. Its still firm but maybe a bit less so. The front pads look fine, I have bled the fronts just to try something. I haven't yet looked at the rear shoes. I'm thinking that it could be just the characteristic of this car's brakes or I may have a problem (its gotta be one or the other doesn't it). If it is a problem what could it be?? Maybe the vacuum assist? How to test for this?
So if anyone has any recommendations/suggestions I'm all ears.

You probably need new brakes. If your foot is going further to the floor then normal thats a good indication as well as when you ride on the brakes you kinda feel the whole car pulse like it kinda pushes back and forth or something. The thing with the pedal when the car is off is normal.
