i was wondering what is a 20/22hybrid.this is what ive done to my car lately.i whent 30over on my 20r block,(should have got a 22r)but some say 20r is better, not sure.new pistons, rings ect.as for the head i decided to port and polish(im doing it)and the intake also.now heres my ?.at first with only adding the webbers, headders, electricholley fuel pump,i was eating up those 22r,two months after the car was dragging a little, burnouts wasnt as good anymore, plus spark plug wires from number 2 would pop right out from the head.why was it doing that.also whats the diffrence in what i did,and just using a 22r with a 20r head.

number 2 plug wire would pop right out the head? Check your spark plug? Is it torqued in there correctly? Sounds like it's loose.

Wow 30 over! I imagine with all that work you probably upped the compression and got forged pistons. I have a 20/22R hybrid, course this is the only place that I admit that. I have a intake match port, polish, valves and, double springs on my head. I always thought my car was slow until now. I hear the reason to to go 20/22R is Flow. The round intake & exhaust make for a better free flowing head. This head on top of the 22R block gives you a bigger bore & higher compression. The 22R is a shorter block. Also stock pistons are crowned. This means that they have a ring that sticks up above the top of the block when you have it turned to top dead center. There are only certian years you can use though. I think 81-84, I'm 100% on that. www.toysport.com explains the 20/22R hybrid very well. But their catalog is old and out of date. Anyway I am now a beliver in the hybrid. But I also think it's the head work that really makes it alive. Many already know toyota built these (20 & 22r's) to last. So there's really no need for much more stock, When dealing with the block. The block I bought was from a Pick-A-Part (you walk through salvage & remove the parts you need) and cost 70Bucks. It's a used block, and I took off a lot of heads before I picked a block that I liked. This took 2 days due to rain. If you go this route you'll have to block off a few water passages, but nothing vital for engine cooling. I will be building another 22R block soon, and on someone else's advice through this message board I will be using Total Seal rings. With my new compression I don't like thinking about the power I'm losing with stock rings.

I would definetly call your pistons manufacturer. Although the head may bolt on and the motor rotate freely, at high rpm you could slam ythe piston into the combustion chamber. You need to know the piston to cylinder head clearance specs. I would find out before I gernaded my motor.
