Hi,

I have a 2000 camry 4cyl and it misses when the air conditioning is on. When you try to accellerate its hesitates and then as the rpms pick up it smoothes out. It seems like it runs more rough when the motor is under a load. It also does it when the a/c is off but the misses are not as noticible. If you slam on the gas it hesitates real bad, it jerks. But then as you let off the pedal it gets going again. the car does have the check engine light on and its an evap code that says check gas cap or craked hoses. and alson when you slam on the gas as i stated earlier; the check engine light will flash and then stop flashing as the car smoothes out. I dont know what this could be and any help would be greatly appreciated as Im a do it myselfer. God bless,

Thanks,
Joe

Joe: Your engine is telling you what to check, for a start. Are those the only codes indicated? How much mileage is on the car? When was it tuned-up, if ever? Have you checked the fuel charcoal recovery system? the vacuum lines? Do you have a service manual? There are some sensors related to the air-conditioner which send signals back to the CPU. You could have a problem with any one or more of them. If it were my car, I would: scan the codes and list them, then, check all hoses and tubings for loose connections or cracks, give the car a complete tune-up, clear all codes and drive the car through a 50-mile cycle to re-establish a baseline, see how the car drives now, scan the codes again. If this hasn't improved the situation, I would follow-up on the specific circuits shown by the codes. Good luck. Hy.
