My 2000 Toyota Celica GT is burning 5 qt of oil every WEEK. When I took it to the dealer this burning oil causes it to sludge the engine. I made a research on the internet about Toyota Oil Sludge problems, and I found: http://www.oilgelsettlement.com/
Unfortunately, 2000 Celica was NOT on the vehicle list. If you guys have the same probs, would you file a complaint on : www.consumeraffairs.com. It doesn't matter what model your Toyota vehicle is, I think we should have another suit that should cover ALL Toyota vehicles that have oil sludge probs.

When McDonalds screws up your order, do you call your lawyer first? Strange how you don't want to fix the oil burning problem, and sue over something else.

Your car is burning oil because you have a broken oil ring. Just in case you happen to care.

I agree with this guy...its a 17 yr old car proly been driven hard, and the rings are shot on it now...either buy a new car or fix it. My celica has the same problem but not as bad burns a bit from the rings but the wrose part is the rear seal is cracked so it leaks oil which is going to cost alot to fix...so american to make a suit over this haha.

LotOMiles: First of all, have you gone to the website I've PROVIDED? And did you read up on how many models are being settled for?? And you're trying to tell me that it has a broken ring? Well, my Toyota dealer said that its a sludge that caused my third valved failed to have compression. And I took my car to be serviced once every three months , faithfully. But thanks for the suggestion! And, this is certainly not $5 burger from McD, its $18900 when I bought it!
DFA: First of all, I'd like to get my math straight, my car is only SEVEN years old, 100k. For Toyota it should last for another 150k just like my other Corolla. I commute. Therefore, half of these miles is a highway miles. Have you read the court order and how many million cars had been affected? Do your homework! Its just because it didn't happen to you, doesn't mean that it does not happen!

easy gentlemen easy...

How many miles are there? If not a terribly large amount you may still be able to switch over to synthetic (Which is great, I may add). Also, what kind of oil are you using now and whats the viscosity? I think the new Celica GT's use the 1ZZ-FE w/ 5W-30... regardless, it might be the piston rings (as stated above). It is rather pricey for this to replaced as it requires the engine block to essentially be taken apart..

Well, I went ahead and replaced it. We'll see how the new engine would do. I used to love Toyota, die hard Toyota person! My 93 Corolla last me forever w/out any probs. So.. I'd give my cel one more chance, hope it makes some differences. My Cel only got 97k miles. I usually use 10W-40, change it every 3k miles. The burning oil getting worse when my cel hit 67k. Ever since its burning 5 qt of oil/week, therefore, I dont' have a chance to change the oil, just the filter.
Thanks for ur suggestion though!
