how many miles, how often oil changed, was the oil full?. Lots of questions. I have found the ANY toyota will build up sludge, and have reduced oil flow when the oil is not changed on time. Even going 1000 mi over could, and will cause these problems! It seems some people will buy a Toyota, and expect to drive them, and do NOTHING to them because "They just last forever!" You may have been the victim of this, and now it is too late. Always change the oil on time, (or as close as possible) and ckeck the level often. Maintanace is the key to longevity, so fix that motor, and then take care of it!

Regular oil changes and filter changes save a lot of long term grief! It's cheap, fast and stupid not to take care of when it's needed.

It has 90k miles on it. I do my regular oil changes w/ jiffy lube (i got the hook up so its stupid not to take advantage of it). Starting at about 80k miles it started tappin a lot and burning through oil a lot. Between oil changes I'd have to put about 4 extra quarts in it. I don't know what the problem is, but on other blogs on the internet i've seen people with similar problems. jus wonderin if anyone else has them

One question ..are you using synthetic oil or regular oil? That can make a sludge difference.

If you can change it yourself, you might want to flush the engine ...takes a bit of cheap oil, but it helps.

I have the same problems on my 2001 Celica GT which has about 76000 miles on it. I'll try the engine flush thing and get back to you!

My brother tried the engine flush deal and said it worked great for him. He asked me to pass on his thanks. So Thanks!

the shop I went to recommended a fuel injector system flush instead of the engine flush. They also used a heavier oil to prevent burning (20w-50)

Drove my car around for a bit and it seemed peppier. I'll update y'all in 2 weeks if the oil level drops any.

Johnny, thanks for the update. Keep us posted on the situation. I'm interested in how it works for a couple of weeks.

I feel I have been bamboozled by the guy at the oil change place. The fuel injection flush and increase in oil weight did not help with my car's oil burning problem. I will now get the engine flush to see if that will help any.

Anyhow, I should have known better. The guy at the shop probably just wanted the most money out of me

cost of Engine Flush = $40 w/oil change

cost of fuel injection system flush = $120 w/oil change

Hi Johnny, did you ever have any luck with your oil problems?

I'm experiencing something very similar at the moment.

Thanks

Martin
