Yeah, I think I have blown the subwoofer in my Avalon. (That's the speaker in the center rear right? Car audio is not my forte.) It makes a crackling sound when I play my music. Does anyone know what size it is so I can get a replacement?

Thanks!

According to the crutchfield.com site it should be a 12" one.

well, as a past audio sales manager--i may help. what you hear could be a couple things---1st a 'blown' 'voice-coil'---i say this as 'woofers', let alone 'sub-woofers' handle the lowest 'boom boom' frequencies'---and They use more power than an army of 'tweeters'---so get hot, voice-coil distorts, 'crossover' electrics may fail---even the foam surounding the speaker could cause what you hear, unlikely---'blown voice-coil' gets my vote--

remedy? you don't fix a voice-coil---ya bury it---best look for an Alpine, Pioneer, JBL speaker---something with a whoppin power-handling spec. and that's 'true rms' power---not some BS 'music-power', etc., as dealers site.

and a word on 'sub-woofers'---'woofers', good ones, produce audio response to the bottom of human hearing---what more does one need? sub-woofers eat power like crazy producing, i feel, superfluous low-freqencies, you may feel but can't hear---they can hurt your car---i often hear 'boom-booms' go by, and the entire vehicle is 'rattling'---future trouble---not to mention ear-damage---for real---

best look for as mentioned above---no worries on your power-amp, yet---if it could waste a sub-woofer V/C?
ya got plenty---and try 'turning volume down'? if ya find a good R&R, and it's still 'breaking-up'? then think of your amp---as speakers, low-frequencies 'push-the envelope' of any audio system---that does include the amp----at home, or driving---good luck---

took a look at your 'sub-woofer'---well, as an audiophile (that's legal), bass-player, they're plain 'woofers'---like in a base-amp, loud home-audio---few 'hear-able' sounds below 30 hz---so i suspect a crossover frequency mod, or safer, an equalizer---on perhaps 'tricked-out' cars, etc. Vibrates from inside air-pressure change---flimsy cars, dying ears---and that cooks voice coils---with a bass? if you've a stack of Marshall 12s in back of you---and 'hold' a low note for 10 seconds? Kaput.

so remember--- ya can't eat a voice coil---you may turn the next one's volume down, after 'blasting it'---let it cool out---low hz=very hard speaker work. besides, as the hz (frequency) drops Harmonic Distortion soars on any speaker---to a hi-fi person sounds junky---the right woofer will not only rock your butt, it will also add to 'realism' effect when not pushed into high harmonic distortion range. whatever you choose, be sure it may handle your amp---if it's stock? for sure---right? but a mod? only you would know.

me? i'd find a live old AR-4, someway to fit it in---i mean it---then you've 'high-fidelity'---i've never heard such in any auto, even a pricey Alpine system---
