I have a 2001 Highlander. Only in the summer, it intermittently will not start. I have to wait a while (couple of minutes to a couple of hours) to get it to start. It seems to be heat related since it only happens in the summer (since last summer) but first thing this morning I drove it < 5 miles, parked for 15 minutes in the shade and it wouldn't start (only a few minutes this time). And it was only 72 degrees out! Saturday I had to wait almost 2 hours. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas? I'd hate to start replacing ignition parts one by one.

Thanks!
Drew

Could be signs of a weak battery. Do you still have the factory battery or have you replaced it recently?

I had a similar problem. Check the grounding wires around the engine. A quick test is to conect a generous guage from the bat. neg. to the intake or block and try that. Just my .02

I should have mentioned that it doesn't seem to be the battery b/c it can't be jump started at these times.

Can you explain 'generous guage from the bat. neg. to the intake or block' a little more for me?

have you done tune up, lately? anyways, better checked all your toyota highlander parts to see what's really wrong and if there's a need for replacement. check the plugs, starter, fuel pump and injectors.. also check if there's a dirty connection, try to clear everything.. give us an update of what other things did you notice.. good luck (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif)

I finally took it to the dealer and it turns out the computer was faulty. Amazingly, it was still under warranty (Up to 80k and I had 74K!) so it was free. I was(am) still a little doubtful that that was the only problem but so far so good and it's been a couple of weeks. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
