Hi, everyone, I am in need of some urgent help since the car is in the shop as I type this. I've got an 02 camry 4 cylinder with 96,xxx miles. Last week, when I put the car in reverse, it didn't immediately move, revved up to about 3k then it moved with a big jolt, this happened twice. I also noticed a bit of a whine in 1st gear at low speeds, 5-15mph at 1100 rpm. I took the car to a transmission shop and they are telling me something internal is broken and its 700 to remove the transmission and see what is broken, and then 2200 to rebuild it. Does this sound right? The car hasn't had any troblem shifting into reverse, since the 2 times it had trouble, and it shifts through all the gears fine, no slipping at all, the fluid looks good with no metal shavings. Thanks for any help or input.
