How are you?

I'm new to this. What aprked my membership is to find out how many other 2002 Toyota Highlander 6v 2 wheel drive Owners have had problems with the Idle Control Motor of their SUV. My SUV is only 4 years old and It's hard for me to beolieve that I'm having problems with a big part of the vehicle. Idle Air Control Motorr of Idle Control Motor of the SUV.

Please send me answers if you have heard of this before

Yes, it is unusual for this to go on such a relatively new vehicle.

However, it is a moving part and statistically they fail every so often. It's easy to replace if you can turn a wrench.

I also have an 02 Highlander and have been having problems, the mechanic could not fix the problem until the engine light came on. That time he said it was the Oxygen Control Sensor, but I still have the same problem, and he can't figure it out. Is your car idling low, and sometimes dies upon starting after you remove your foot from the brake? Have you been able to get it fixed?

Do you have an extended warranty on the vehicle itself, because you may get some free help with the matter....this is a fairly new vehicle and sucks you are having such a problem, so soon.

I have an 02 Highlander that starts but the idle is around 200 RPMs and most of the time when I get it out of Park, it dies if it doesn't die on its own. At first I pressed on the accelerator down for a 10 count before I turned the key and it did fine and through my 5 days of exchanging vehicles with my wife, the pressing down on the accelerator stop working. The only thing to do is to gently get it running above 800 RPMs for as long as it takes for it to be able to idle on its own. Step on the brake and move the gear to Neutral. If the idle dies, start it in Neutral gearing and get it to a faster idle. By accident, I was facing a smoked window at work and I observed the daytime running lights that were pulsing during low RPMs and when it finally kicked over the steady lights were reflected. I had to do this for one week because its my wife's car and even though she made me buy the Platinum Extended Warranty, the dealership knowing the problems would not fix it. Toyota has this thing where if they can start it, its fine. It doesn't matter whether it continues to run or is drivable as long as it kicks over and can idle as long as they fast idle. If anyone wants to refute my claims here, I will be glad to scan the copies of my dealership service papers. On one of them, the service manager actually typed in that they were able to repeat the problem I was having but did nothing! Extended warranty in my case is and still is a waste of money if the three Toyota dealerships do not honor it. When I talked to my co-worker whose brother-in-law is a Toyota district analyst, he stated that Highlanders typically have the design fault in defective Idle Control module in over 40% of the 2000 through 2004 models. Most people begrudgingly pay to get it fixed because there is a unwritten policy to deny extended warranties to replace the idle control module problem because it is not cost effective.

I am told that if I spent $398.00 the problem can be fixed. My warranty, Toyota's best extended warranty will not cover this dangerous problem and defect to their design. I have two Toyotas. My wife's Highlander, the son's Corolla and I am currently not pleased with being jerked around but this is after all a lesson in life that I am supposed to learn.

Tomorrow morning, I will get the Highlander to the service bay of the Toyota dealership that John Elway owns again and plead my case to fix it and I'll pay for it because they refuse to do so even though it is covered. I am tired of the dealership runarounds. My Porsche is more reliable than the Corolla and the Highlander! I have owned 3 Porsches and they are expensive to maintain but the dealerships do honor their warranties. In my case, I am quite disappointed with good reason in Toyota as a corporation policy in not honoring their premium extended warranty. My wife likes her Highlander and was talking about trading her's in for a hybrid Highlander but she isn't talking anymore. $398 is a small price to pay when a Highlander can stall and shut off on the freeway

Well, as a first time poster on this message board, I hope to have good news and my wife's Highlander on the road reliably and safely instead of its current unpredictable condition.

I am experiencing the similar Idle Sensor Control Issue.... But the Toyota Dealer told me I need a new Throttle Body Motor b/c of the gunk buildup... I just came from my local mechanic and he said it was the Idle Sensor Control- and I need a fuel system flush...
I have a 2003 Highlander with close to 117,000 miles.... My Idle at park is high 2100rpm-- at times... then goes back low and revs up again after I put in park after a longer drive. Is this something I should immediately have done... it is ballpark 560$ and I am not sure if it is necessary- isn't there a knob that turns down the idle?
Help.....????
