2002 tacoma 4 cylinder 4x4 with 54k miles just started this problem, every time i fill up with gas, the truck will not start up on the first try. It does eventually start so far on 2nd or 3rd try and runs a little rough for about 2 minutes, then every thing is normal again. i have tried to simulate problem by removing gas cap, to no avail, this always happens when i add gas to the tank. Does anyone have any ideas, my guess is fuel filter , venting problem, or fuel pump, please help.

You are on the right track. Have you tried it without filling up. Just turning it off for 2 minutes, then back on. It might be unrelated to the fillup.

Took to dealer , on the way the check engine light came on , dealer installed new charcole cannister($350.00) and a couple of valves , total cost $940. what a great product these toyotas are, all this work on a vehicle that has only 54k miles

Sorry you had your problems, but you can't make such broad generalizations just based on your experience, you'd have to take into account all people who drive Toyotas. As for me, I've got over 130K miles on my '99 and they've been pretty much trouble free except for a broken seatbelt tensioner that I had fixed recently. I'd buy another Toyota in a heartbeat.
