Hi Everyone,
I owned a 2005 Sienna LE with 74,500 km. I went with Toyota because of my great past experience with a Lexus 300, and people's rave about Toyota's quality. At the time of purchase I also bought ECP package covering up to 160,000 km (or 72 months) for a piece of mind. These are my experiences:
-at 35000 km, I had to do wheel alignment because front wheels were "toeing"
-at 54000 km, my driver's side window actuator went and rear bumper sagged (Toyota replaced the whole bumper)
-at 57000 km, my radiator went (common problem?)
-at 74500 km my driver's sliding door wouldn't close (it would come close to closing and then bounced open)
I brought the van in this morning, but the dealership said it's not cover under warranty! The cost is $1900.00.
My ECP does not cover the motor and cable for power sliding door (Man! The sales guy told me it was bumper-to-bumper). Luckily the dealership appealed the case to head office, and they approved it.

Anyways, I'm disappointed with the van I have, and the money I spent on ECP. Does anyone out there have the kind of problems I have.

P.S. My van never miss a dealer's scheduled service.

Tekkie

I can't believe you've had that type of experience with a Toyota. I've just never experienced that. My sister has had a Sienna for about 10 years now, and the biggest problem she's had with it is the 'check engine' light tends to come on at random.

My 2004 Sienna has 50K, just notiecd ani-freeze running down the radiator. Looks like i'll need to get this looked at. Will try some alumi-seal first too see if the leak stops.

Wow, that sure is alot of problems in such a short span of time. I love toyotas because they are "known" to last and not give too many problems. That seems like way too many problems. I would probably be hesitant, in buying another one if I were in your shoes.

I registered to this board and many other toyota boards to give toyota owners some much needed warning. I work for a large extended warranty company and see all makes and models and their problems.

Without a doubt the toyotas have the largest loss ratio of any vehicle we warranty. Toyotas used to be a solid vehicle but over the past 7 years they have cost their owners more money than any other vehicle.
Toyota parts cost more than any other vehicle, they mark them up more than any other manufacturer and make money hand over fist by screwing customers. Their factory labor times also exceed other manufacturers for basic repairs. Their engines produce more sludge than any other vehicle even w/ regular maintenance.

The reliablity ratings you see are based on available technical service bulletins and recalls. Toyota has very few because they simply refuse to acknowledge their problems.

Guess what else? They have no plans in improving their products and have grown too big for their own good.
The vehicles with the best loss ratio are Hyundais and Fords.
The numbers do not lie, if you own a toyota the factory warranty is pathetic and the repairs are outrageous.
If the toyota was so reliable they would be more confident in their product and provided something better than a basic 3yr 36k warranty and 5/60 powertrain
Buy a hyundai and get 5/60 basic and 10/100 powertrain w/ less problems.
Kia has a good warranty but it does not transfer if you're buying used.
Otherwise if you own a toyota it is very wise to purchase an extended warranty but be warned that it will cost more than any other model. Warranty companies like the one I work for will charge more because they know toyotas will cost them more.

Example? A simple brake actuator for a 2005 Sienna retails for $2753.39, a ford or chevy ABS pump and module together are less than $900 and they rarely fail. You can replace a transmission in most vehicles cheaper than that. The toyota engines also use cheaper metals in their engines.

Again, this is just a warning for the honest consumer who doesn't wish to waste their hard earned money.
