Hi all,

Just noticed the driver's side sliding door is rubbing on the top part of the door pocket (rubbed the paint off) and also chewing up the rubber trim under the rearmost portion of the upper track (under the rear window). It appears the door is sitting just a bit too low and needs adjusting.

We will be taking it in to the dealer tonight but thought I'd post here in case anyone had similar issues. From searching, it appears this is not unusual for the 2004's, but ours is a 2005. FWIW- it has approx 30,000 miles.

Thanks.

For those who see this here and who might find this in a search, I thought I'd post what the dealer said.

The middle hinge on the sliding doors wears out. There is a vertical post that the hinge pivots on that appears to have bushings top and bottom. You can lift the door and see this vertical post (like a King Pin in a spindle) wiggle back and forth.

We are out of warranty and the cost is approx $350- labor and parts to fix this.

This is unacceptable to me on a vehicle with 30,000 miles- especially one that is used to haul kids where the doors will be open and shut many times. I will be complaining to Toyota. Not that it will do any good, but it will make me feel better. ;)

Final update:

Called Toyota Corporate who sent a file to the dealer to ask about possibly covering this repair. No go. The dealer's regional manager looked at our "file" and determined we hadn't spent enough money at that dealer (I guess they didn't factor in the two cars we bought there) to justify them paying for all or part of the repair.

Repair ended up costing $295.
