Unbelieveable! Brand new 2007 RAV4 Sport <30 days old w/850 miles. Sudden clanking noise then metal scraping on the road. Stopped the vehicle and looked underneath to find the exhaust had separated after the muffler, before the tail pipe. The connection looks like it was designed to use two bolts, and they were MISSING!

I don't want a vehicle that has such poor quality and a major failure in the first 30 days. Is this a known issue with RAV4s? Any suggestions on how best to proceed? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

This is not a Toyota fault, someone tried to steal your cat. They got half way unbolting it, then got spooked off and didn't finish the job. Missing the bolts, the pipe fell off a few miles later, Count your lucky stars all you lost was two 2$ bolts and not a $700 cat.

Funny you mentioned this, as I was reminded recently, that when the tryouts for American Idol were held here in Dallas, many people that went there, returned to their cars to find their catalytic converters had been ripped off. Thats exactly what happened. Its big business for thieves.

Glad to have a heads up. What the heck are they gonna do with the cats? Sell 'em? Catalytic converters aren't universal as far as I know. However, I'm sure they'd work for similar drivetrain setups but that's it.

They're probably doing it just to piss people off? How sad.

Recycle them. They are worth about 50 bucks.
