Thinking about buying a 2008 Tacoma V6 4.0L. I use to own a 4.3L Chev and it was a pig on fuel. How do u guys rate the 4.0L Tacoma. I'm a little hesitant until I hear some reviews.

tks

I have an 08 Tacoma V6 crewcab, it does combine city/highway between 20/22 mpg, and i dont do the speed limit either,i am always about 10 mph over 60mph, i also use regular gas 87 octane, so its not too bad given these numbers,i think its a great truck altogether.

I bought my 08' about 3 weeks ago. One of the first things I did was buy the ScanGaugeII to help me manage my fuel use. I think it works very well. In a mix of country and town driving right now I'm at 24.1 mpg. I had a 93' Ford Explorer 4.0L and the best I could do, without the ScanGaugeII was 17.3 mpg country/town and the best interstate at 65 mph was 23 mpg once but most of the time around 21.7 mpg. I have not had the Tacoma on the interstate yet but will on the 9th of this month for a 700 mi. round trip. I have always babied my motors so watching what I do with my right foot is easy for me. Managing your fuel use is the single most effective way to get the best mpg. IMHO.

You should be able to pull 18-20 mpg on the highway with a Tacoma with a 4.0L in it. Try to find one with an automatic transmission. For some odd reason, the ones with the 5-speed automatic tend to get better milage than the ones with the 6-speed manual.
