i'm trying to make a deal for a 86 4x4 22R engine. he said it blew a head gasket ? he said it was blowing steam out the exhaust. he then said he put some anti freeze in it for the winter then drove it for a 1/4 mile to circulate the anti freeze in the system. then he checked the oil and then there was anti freeze in the oil said there was no water in oil before then. it has sat and never cranked over after that. so what do you think head gasket ? or seen on another post of a cause for water in oil could be from a the water pump on the timing chain cover be worn causing water leakage into oil. but steam still sounds like a head gasket right. is it likely a blown head gasket can cause water in oil alone ? thanks if you can help me out. i had a 84 p/u wish i kind of still had it still.

Coolant being burned is most likely the head gasket.
When the Timing Chain (not Water Pump) wears a hole thru the TC Cover, coolant gets in the oil but there isn't a good path for it to get into the cylinders to be burned.
Either way, coolant in the oil isn't good for crank bearings either.
