Have a Caldina with the 2C (2000cc) diesel engine. Speedo says it's done 233,000 km but I think it's done more.
When I go to start it from cold, it will fire instantly, but it coughs and farts and runs on 3 cylinders for a few moments til it warms a little then runs smoothly. It also blows a bit of blue/grey smoke.. but not a lot and only as it starts.

When it's hot, if I switch off and go to start again, it winds over for a couple of seconds before it fires.

Someone told me that the 2C has compression issues - and if you grind the valve shims it will restore the compression.

Any thoughts?
