Apologies for my first post ... the Hiace P/U I'm looking to buy actually runs a 1812cc gas engine, also called a 2Y-J, with a 5 spd. Any insights to fuel consumption, performance and/or reliability would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Neil

I have a 1990 with the standard 2Y. not the 2Y-j
I am getting about 28mpg city driving. expect a little difficulty holding highway speeds because the p/u were only designed with small farm roads in mind. I have the same p/u in double cab, if you have the single cab you may get better mileage
