The 4ws is permanently on except for when you reverse and have the rev-2ws button on.

The 4ws is on all the time you can not turn it off, except for reversing

Oh that's interesting the guy that sold me the car told me you could switch it off and on as you please not that it only turned off in reverse, you learn something new everyday. Thanks for the advise

The front and rear steering systems are connected by a fixed shaft so unless you do some major mechanical modifications to the car then you're stuck with it! The only time you can switch it off is when you reverse (REV 2WS button). Even this is a bit of a cheat though as the shaft will still turn the rear steer box but the wheels are corrected to stay straight by electric motors. If someone said you can switch it off then they don't know their facts I'm afraid... Having said that it doesn't take long to get used to the system, after which you'll wonder why all cars don't have it! Unless of course the 4WS warning light is on (the reason why most of us found this forum), then you'll know exactly why!   Happy motoring!

Thanks for all the help guys i love the 4-ws but the reason for wanting to turn it off was so to try and get a bit more drift going as it seems to under-steer more than over-steer but hey hey I'll just have to try harder

happy motoring to you too

These things don't oversteer (unless, IME, you take a 90 degree off camber right hander at 70 in the wet with the space saver on) ;)

well i've had it sideways a few times but nothing to get excited over might give that a try it seems a bit of a shame to change the way it handles as going round corners fast is what it was designed to do

cornering on rails is what they do best (and getting in and out of tight parking spaces) :)

Not when you get stuck in high speed mode it isn't. When the back wheels steer the same way as the fronts then the turning circle is similar to that of Jupiter! Good when it works though!   Over steer? Try something rear wheel drive like a Nissan 200SX. You can sometimes get the back out though, it just requires getting the power on at the right point of the corner, not going in way too fast. Try going in quite fast (sport steering switched on to keep the back end countersteering), turn in gently to load the outside suspension more gradually rather than overwhelm it, at the apex take your foot off the power, turn in a little harder and that should do it. If it doesn't then try something like what I just said but with the revs high, put your foot flat down at the apex then stab the brakes with your left foot. It sounds a lot harder than it actually is. Happy sliding!

thanks for the advice i have found out that if you really sling it in to a corner and back off the power it will over-steer but it can be a bit lethal very easy to loose it, i'll give your suggestions a go and let you what happens, i was thinking about a 200sx a fried had 1 all  modded up for driffting it was wicked but he sold it before i could get the cash together but i am more than happy with my celica
