Howdy,
I'm looking into buying an 80-series landcruiser but I found the suspension a bit too stiff and the steering a little on the heavy side. I've seen a youtube review of both the 1990 landcruiser (fj80) and the 1993 (fzj80) model and it's apparent that among the changes between these models are a shift from Recirculating Ball to Rack&Pinion steering and an increase in spring rate, apart from the 4.5 liter engine upgrade. I don't care much for road feel nor do I mind leaning a bit more on corners for the sake of a plusher ride. My question is this: is it possible to swap springs between an fj and an fzj? Any mods required, and if so, how much would the mods cost?
Further research has also led me to the understanding that the 1996+ LX450 was specifically engineered to have a plusher ride than its stablemate. Could one simply bolt on springs from the LX450 on a 'Cruiser as well?
I've checked out some aftermarket springs like SLEE but apparently they're designed for better ride control on and offroad. I'm a slowpoke and I don't care much for ride control up to a reasonable point. Also, I don't mind lifting the rig moderately though I'm not looking for an all out rock crawler.
Thanks for any advice!
