i have a 91 hiace van with a 5 speed box in it. i think it's shagged, she grinds going into 2nd, intermittantly its so hard to put in any gear that superman would struggle with it but turning the van on and off a few times and pushing the clutch in and out a few times sometimes fixes it. Now it makes a whirling sound when i push the clutch right in. So does anyone know what type of box it is??

It's not the gearbox that is shagged - it's your clutch!

It sounds like the slave cylinder isn't pushing the clutch lever out far enough. It could be that it's worn, or there is air in the system.

The whirring noise you hear is the thrust bearing. Get it replaced at the same time.

Your gearbox will be fine.
