New here and I have a question. I just purchased a 96 Tercel for my daughter and it has 93,000 mi on it. I thought I might replace the timing belt since I have no idea if its ever been replaced. I did one once on an old Escort I had and it wasn't real hard. Is it much of a job on the Tercel and can anyone give me some step-by-steps or is it too involved and I should buy a book? I checked eBay for shop manuals but there weren't any. I have shop manuals for all my other vehicles and even some I no longer own.

Also, my neighbor has a 95 that looks just like mine. Is it the same job on this one. He wants to do his too.

Thanks in advance

Are you sure it has a belt and not a chain? If you have the latter than it doesn't need to be replaced.

I ran into the same problem with my 96. It seems that no one makes manuals for this Tercel body style (95-98) but Toyota. They are very expensive if you can find one. I couldn't, so in the end I had to take it in to have it done when I bought the car almost 6 years ago now. I have since seen a couple of websites that mechanics use that give step by step instructions on how to fix anything but you have to pay a monthly fee to access this information and I haven't seen how much it is yet.
