Apparently there are no shop manuals available at a reasonable price??
I am considering replacing the clutch on the old beast, since she still runs strong.
How difficult is this? I am pretty mechanical, have replaced hubs, drive shafts etc, but never a tranny.
Does anyone know where I can get instructions, photos? Thanks for your help!!!

Hey, Bloody Knuckles,

What did you do for your clutch on the 95 Tercel? I just joined this forum and found your post from Jan. I have a 95 Tercel ( and 95 T100 and 99 4Runner) that seems to be loosing it's clutch. My wife has driven the car since it was new and now it has 188K. It uses a little oil internally, but I've had work done on it and want to keep it. The pedal must be depressed almost to the floor to disengage, and the tranx slips when ever i floor the gas pedal. I'm guessing that means the clutch, or clutch related parts.

I got an estimate for $500 from a shop that replaced the clutch on my friend's Mustang GT. I don't mind paying someone to do it right, I just want to make sure I'm making the right repair.

I'm wondering what you ended up doing for your Tercel?

Thanks,

sounds like you need to replace the master cyclinder might be loosing pressure around the seals that would be the reason the pedal will hit the floor... when replaced you will have to bleed it just like a brake system....

slipping clutch.. sounds like it's time for a new assembaly.. I picked up and assembally for a 93, 4speed.. droped the trans in 30mins in winter on a jack in my drive... so on a 1-10 scale it's pretty freakin easy...

all you should need if it's like my car is 10,12,14mm sockets might need a 13mm for the hardlines on top of trans... pliers or a screw driver to losen the boots on the drive shaft so you can pull back the trans...

when lining up the clutch if you have like a broom handle as long as you center that your clutch will be fine.. most new kit assemballys give you a plastic tool that'll do the same thing though..

if it won't slide on turn the drive shaft till it does to align the splines... make sure when you slide it all the way back there is no GAP between the block and the trans if there is it's not right.. do not try tighting it up to the block using the bolts cause you'll regret it... just back it off NOT all the way but just a lil bit.. give it a turn and bring it in again...
