i might be buying a 96 tacoma extra cab 4x4 v6 it has only 71k on it the frame is badly rotted from sittin in the grassy yard i got a price on a new frame from japan and they want over 4 grand they guy wants a couple hundred for the truck so my question is where can i get a frame cheap? or what can i do to fix this one? and the most IMPORTANT question what year and model trucks have matching frames? my buddy wants to sell me a 92 hilux same body style but is the frame the same? thanks

I believe the 95.5-97 had the same frames. Not sure if the 98-04's were the same because the leaf spring lengths were different from the 95.5-97's. I don't think the 92 frame will fit. I don't think there's much you can do for rusted frames. I would check out car-part.com and see if they have any Taco frames around.

thanks alot o yea one more question would i beable to swap motors and tranny from the 96 into the 92?

It'd be possible for the swap, but I'm not quite sure what would else would be needed... ECU, wiring harness maybe? Dunno.....

I have a frame rot problem with my 1997 tacoma. Has anyone out there done a frame swich. I would like to find out what I am up against. Is it possable to keep the motor and trany with the cab or is it better to pull the cab off then move the motor etc?
