Hello everyone, I am a new member. I hope I will be able to actively involve in the discussion in this forum. I am a new owner of a used Toyota 1998 model (113K miles) and this is my first car in USA. Recently 3 days back, when I was trying to connect ipod through cassette adapter to the car audio system, I heard very loud sound and soon speakers stopped working and I smelled something burning from cassette slot. Later I found power in the audio system but no sound. The next day I brought my car to work and the same day evening I found my car's battery discharged. So I jumpstarted it and charged for 30min. However, the next day morning again it went out of power and I had to jumpstart it. So I took my car to garage but I was given an stimate of 400$ explaining battery and alternator's belt replacement. So I did replace the battery with a new one as I and my frined found no problem with alternator. Now so far (almost 7hrs since I replaced the battery) my car is starting fine but I am worried if some short circuit happened and due to that the battery is getting discharged very frequently. So does any one have any suggestion that what should I do in this case? Should I get the short circuit checked thoroughly by some mechanic or should I wait for a week or so to see what happens to the battery?
Thank you all very much in advance foryour valuable feedback.
