Hello,

I have a 99 corolla with about 85000 miles. For a while I've had a problem with leaking engine oil. It only seems to leak when driving (no spots in driveway) The leak seems to be coming from behind the engine on the left side, and drops of oil get spit into a belt which sprays it onto the roof of the hood (the insulation up there is soaked)
I've had it in to a couple mechanics, and they both claim they can't find a leak using a dye kit and tell me that losing that volume of oil is normal (1 qt per 1000 miles or so)

Has anyone had any experience with this type of leak? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Joe

I have the EXACT same problem. There is a build up of oil on the electronic fans on the passanger side. The hood is soaked, a little bit of smoke comes from behind the motor, from the heat shield that covers the exhuast. No leak spots in the driverway, but it burns/leaks 1 qrt about every week or 2.

I honestly think its either the value cover gasket or oil pan gasket. I need help with this!!!!!

I did neglect the car in the past, going 7k+ miles with no oil change ><

Check the valve cover ...happened to me not long ago and a mechanic had left the screws not completely tightened. I didn't even realize it until I needed oil and saw the mess. Took it in and it was a simple fix. maybe I was lucky.

They said the same thing about my car. But, I checked with my dealer and had some parts replaced to stop the leak.
