i'm about to pick up my new, to me, 1999 Tacoma Monday and i'm probably more excited than a 49.5 year old should be. i'm not sure witch 4 cylinder is in it, but both share common filters, plugs, etc. my main concern is the timing belt. my buddy Paul, and also the seller, has never changed it and the old girl has 193m miles on it. i've heard that some older Yotas kept using the chains in some models, but i don't know. this truck drives/rides like a dream. she is a farm truck, so there are a few dings here and there, from hauling firewood and other rural types things. Anyway, any truck people out there who can orientate a fella to the "what to look fors" concerning a 1999 single cab, sure would be welcome. thanks in advance neugie

Congrats on the purchase! Do you have the PreRunner, 4x4, or the mini? The PreRunners and 4x4's both have 6 lugs while the mini has 5 lugs. The mini will have the 2.4L 4cyl. while the PreRunner and 4x4 will have the 2.7L engine. Both have timing chains and shouldn't need to be replaced. These are tough little trucks and shouldn't need anything apart from regularly scheduled maintenance.
