I picked up my Silver Prius today, 9/9. (For people who are comparing dates, it was actually ready on 9/8. The order was confirmed on 7/11, in Philadelphia). The car is as good as others have reported. I'm thrilled, but instead of reciting the highlights, I thought I'd just make a few minor observations:

1. The silver color -- more like sand to me -- looks much better than in the pictures. Whew!

2. The door-ajar indicator doesn't indicate which door is ajar, and there's no trunk-ajar indicator, either. Bummer!

3. The non-linear brake feel is definitely an acquired taste. The 'shifter' is easy to get used to, but it does block the view of the radio buttons.

4. I wish the parking brake would dis-engage automatically in R or D.

5. I wish the dashboard's two-tone design were extended to the doors. On a sunny day, the reflection of the light-gray interior on the side mirrors (or more precisely the glass in front of the mirrors) is annoying.

6. I'd like to see a simple knob under the LCD screen to turn it down and/or off.

7. I wish the panel light control dial would adjust the LCD screen continuously, instead of just dimming it by a fixed amount.

8. I wish there were more storage bins. Shouldn't there be a tray under the passenger seat? It's listed on the Prius web site (http://prius.toyota.com/details/specs.html). The same web site also mentioned 6-way adjustable front seats. I could find only 2 ways to adjust them -- OK, I guess that counts as 4 but we're still short :-)

9. A trunk opener on the remote would be really nice.

10. I never had spoilers before so I don't know what to expect. The spoiler 'footing' doesn't seem to precisely follow the contour of the trunk lid. The inside, front corners of the two spoiler bases -- I hope you know what I mean -- are off the lid by about 1/8 inch, rather than hugging it tightly. Part of the design?

11. The mostly transparent SULEV sticker is much smaller than I expected. I wouldn't call it a decal because I don't think it was meant to be noticed. The green leaf logo on the front floor mats is also very 'understated'.

My dealer experience:

1. The salesperson and 'delivery manager' were quite friendly. I received an adequate, if not well-choreographed introduction to all aspects of the car.

2. The car wasn't prepped neatly, and wasn't washed thoroughly, or even recently! I found some glue residue plus major streaking on the windows, and a lot of water spots and rough but cleanable areas on the paint. The nice salesperson did what she could at the last minute, and I was in a hurry (hehe) so I let it slide.

3. There were no usual gimmicks except for a mild push for extended warranty by the predictable 'finance person'. I didn't bother to find out the exact cost. I might be interested in the future if the price is right. What would be a good deal on this?

4. The "Eat My Voltage" sticker was installed without asking. It's easily removed.

<<<<The door-ajar indicator doesn't indicate which door is ajar, and there's no trunk-ajar indicator, either>>>>>

Agreed. An unfortunate lapse. Also, the sun visors and, particularly, the unlighted vanity mirrors and their covers (if you can call these "flaps" covers) are too cheap.

GCKorn

The doors of several storage compartments present rough edges/corners when they are opened. I almost cut myself on the door of the CD player slot (I didn't get the CD player). There's a 'spike' on the inside of the door. I also find the door of the small space under the cupholder awkward to open -- I know, big deal :-)

There's a box under the cupholders that I just discovered today- that might be what you mean by the missing storage bins.

Your dealer experience sounds identical to mine-in my case though, preparation of the car was good but not perfect. They left on a sticker that said "remove brake cover then this sticker- danger if not removed" Yikes!, I had already driven home! A panicked call to the dealer revealed that it was only the sticker that hadn't been removed. Whew!

Did you notice that the manual is a stone hoot! Obviously translated into English by native Japanese speakers it's a treasure trove of English that has been mangled in oh, so many different ways.

As a matter of fact, I have some problem with this "box". What's the right way to open the door without breaking a nail?

The manual does appear to be a rushed translation. On the other hand, what's a "stone hoot"? :-)

Sorry, I didn't know there was an advertised "tray under passenger seat"
I had no probs opening the box but I have short fingernails.
A stone hoot is an apparently archaic term meaning it was funny. Sorry for the obfuscation

FWIW, The exact words on <http://www.prius.toyota.com/details/specs.html> are "Fabric-trimmed 6-way adjustable front seats with adjustable headrests, seatback pockets and passenger-seat under-seat storage tray".
