I have an A40 3spd tranny and recently my throttle pressure cable (passing gear cable) got jambed, and had to be disconnected so that my throttle could move. Consequently the transmission shifts, but will not downshift through the gas pedal. I cannot find this cable part anywhere, and wonder if anyone has experience with this problem. Could it be something else in the transmission that isn't working properly?

Will the A40D overdrive transmission bolt right in to my car? What shift linkage changes would be necessary? My model has a steering column shifter.

Generally this cable usually termed as 'kick-down cable' is attached to the carb along with the throttle cable. There is a rubber cap on the front to prevent dust from entering into the cable duct. If you can't find a new cable, the only solution is to remove the cable and clean it with a soft lubricant and put it back. After clean the cable should move freely in and out without stucking. If you feel their is friction then some wires are broken. In this case it has to repleced. Usually here in Pakistan there are remedies for these types of problems, there are shops they can repalce the inner cable for you and it is as good as new.

Removing the cable from the cab side is easy, but for the othe end you have to get underneath the car and remove from the gearbox.

I hope this helps you!

regards
