I have a 1998 Land Cruiser with about 105K. I have noticed over the past couple of years that a pump seems to run frequently. It will come on after about 3 uses of the brakes. I can force it on if I press on the brake peddle and release a couple of times, while standing still. Therefore I believe this to be the ABS pump or something to do with the power brakes.
My issue is that it seems to come on more frequently than I would expect and when it does, it seems to make a rattle noise like an old fuel pump did on a VW rabbit I once owned.
My question is do any of you other LC owners out there have this issue? Should I be worried about the noise or the frequency.
I had the vehicle inspected when I bought it 4 years ago and found nothing of issue. I have had it in for service a couple times since and each time the local mechanic (who did the inspection) indicates that it's normal.

No it's not normal, try cleaning the sensors on each wheel hub, also have you had new brake pads/shoes fitted, because if they didnt release the fluid and just pushed back the pistons this can damage the pump.
