There seems to be an electrical component in the ac wiring called an amplifier. What it does is not obvious as the wiring to and from it do not seem to correspond. Can anyone explain what it does? I can force my compressor clutch to engage if I jump all the terminals to the ac clutch relay(new), but no cooling takes place. What next? The sight glass hows bubbles like it is low in freon but the low side shows full. Does this mean that the expansion block is stuck?

I am also able to only get my compressor to work by jumping the relay. Did you fix the problem? If so, what did it?

Found this on a search: <<...adjust the potentiometer on the ac amplifier under the dash (behind the glove box). Your manual should explain how this is done. It controls the idle speed point where the ac compressor cycles on and off.>> Hope this helps...

Let's keep the A/C information rolling. I think we can all use any bit of help in trying to diagnose A/C issues. I am having intermittant cooling problems and my mechanic and I are both stumped. Ahhhh, I got the dash off today thanks to the nice mechanics at Rising Sun Japanese Automotive in Austin, TX. If anyone lives in Austin, and you are having issues with your truck, talk to these guys. They know what they are doing. They let me take a look at the 1989 shop manual from Toyota......I was like a kid in a candy store. I think I need about a month with the manual and a salvage yard and all my problems would be fixed. Does anyone know where you can buy one for less than a hundred bucks? Finally, I am now putting in the Altimeter that I bought awhile back from the salvage yard. Its from an 86 or 87 model and I am happy to say that the factory wires will plug right in. Just a couple of holes to drill and I will be done. If anyone needs information on installing the Altimeter/clinometer or taking off your dash, email me. Keep the threads going. Patrick
