This is normal in a lot of cars when the hit high speeds around eighty. If it's happening to you at fifty miles per hour, then you may need to take it to the shop. There are a lot of factory into the cars shaking. Aerodynamics being the main problem. Your car isn't going to blow up or cut off, but you will be paing more in gas with all the resistance.

I would balance the tires first, and if that's not the problem, I would check the alignment. Good luck!

Jack each tire up off the ground. Grab it and see if there is any "play" both side to side, then top to bottom. Play can be defined as...say....loose wiggle. It would be as little as a millimetre, and this would indicate a bearing on it's way out. At the fronts, however, be aware of worn tie-rod-ends. If you stick your head in the wheel well and look at the steering rack, move the tire and view where the "slop" is coming from. If the tire jiggles see if the arm of the rack moves and trace it to the tie rod end. Take a look.

If all is "firm", not refering to my "goat-ness" ROFL !!! ....then I concur with my friends' posts above.....likely it tire(s) out-of-balance.

Hi!
Also this topic is old, I will still take the chance to post on it. I have the same problem with a Caldina '93, automatic. At around 80km/h (50mph), a strange shudder/shake starts developing and lasts up to about 90-95 then levels out. I went to the mechanics, no one knows nothing. One sugested replacing the transmission - it would cost more than the car worth. A transmission specialist reckoned it is the transmission fluid level - changed all, but problem still remains. I have swapped wheels with a friend, no luck. I couldn't find any play in any of the front suspension components. Wheel alignment has been done (also I don't think it could have any influence - shake fades out when you take the foot off the gas). Tyres were balanced - anyway, I would expect unbalanced tyres to cause a continuous shudder, regardless of speed and acceleration.
I will try to inspect the engine mounts and cv axles.
If anyone has any any suggestions, I thank you in advance.
Would be interesting to know if the starter of the topic has solved the issue.

Yup hes right, even on my supra, it had the same bearing issue, and the problem was that my cars meant to "go fast" and "handle very well" haah

fortunately, i got OEM parts which usually is hard to find and $$$......find them here: toyotapartszone.com
