Hi everyone, My alternator has had it on my '92 GT 4ws. Is it O.K. to replace it with one from an '88 GT I have spare. They have the same 1.2v on ID plate but different model numbers. Also same fitting and connections but winding looks slightly smaller. Should I check its giving out same voltage and amps as the '92 one. Advice appreciated. Thanks, Malc.

If the windings are smaller chances are the output current is lower. Output voltage is always the same (around 14v) but if the current draw exceeds the current capacity the voltage will sag and you will begin to draw from the battery. In general all the accessories combined don't exceed the current capacity of the alternator, so you should be fine, but u need to keep that in mind if u use a lower output alt. HTH.
