1994 Toyota Tercel 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 109k miles

Ive had my tercel for about two years, putting on 45k miles, and ive broken down three times from the belt slipping/breaking on the alternator. Its not the tensioner but the fact that the assembly itself can only be tightened so much. Eventually, the assembly loosens fairly quickly and the belt squeels whenever i accelerate or down shift when it's cold or wet; in turn, causing my lights to dim as well.

Ive been told changing the alternator may not solve the problem and we've tried lock-tite and a lock washer but it hasn't been effective.

Any suggestions?
