Hello there! Our friend Pogo suggested me on another post to buy an RV. Does anybody here has one? Here in Europe are very popular, since they are convenient to travel around and not having to pay for hotels. When I went to Norway I found so many of them on the roads it was incredible! While living in New York, I only saw them on film productions, as dress rooms and make-up, and occasionally one or two for the stars of the film. I've also seen many of them when there is the Burning man Festival every year... But I want to hear first hand... What is your experience with an RV? Is it worth it? One of the things I want to do is buy one and travel around with it... but how is it for real? Please feel free to comment on this! Thanks!

We have a travel trailer, but I would imagine an RV would be easier, except we can park our trailer and drive around in our truck. Of course, I've seen people tow their car behind the RV. As for the travel trailer, I love it. We take it on prolonged camping trips, (short trips we use tents) and it's nice to have available.

Fyi...a travel trailer is also classified as an RV.

The Pongo's have a travel trailer. Not big, just a 26' long hybrid (meaning very light) so our van can tow it.

We camp all around the province. It comes with a deep cycle battery so you don't need power (except then the microwave is not useable) but for a 3-day weekend the kids can still watch TV for a few hours here and there.

You unhook the trailer, then the tow vehicle is used to go sight-seeing or quick runs to the campground store for groceries (although your bicycle should be plenty of vehicle in a campground).

Man I can't wait for summer again. Sliding down the natural water slide-falls....drinking beer by the campfire....inner-tubing. You folks should come visit.

A trailer sounds like a fun thing to have too! But on my day-dreaming, I think I would like an RV, a Motor Home... something that I can actually live off! I imagine it filled with my things and books and all of my stuff, and my bike in the rack, so I can go around and check out things. For shopping I would just go with the "Whole House" and pack everything in it. I certainly hope that the model I choose has enough space to do all those things! Am I being too crazy to dream about something like that? LOL! Thanks for your inputs, trailer owners. Pongo, I cannot imagine -40C and on a bike! Please, take the car to work!

Berlin, keep dreaming, it's a great dream! You never know when dreams come true!

Pongo--obviously I had no idea a travel trailer was classified as an RV. I always thought an RV was a.......motor home. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif)

One cool thing is that we take our solar power with us, but rarely use it.

I purchased a solar panel last year for $170 but returned it because it was useless to recharge my RV battery. You need alot of amperage...and of course constant sunny weather.

They make better ones I hear...but too expensive for my use.

Couldn't you connect something directly to the solar panel? Of course I have no idea of what I am talking about! I've seen that you need converters and other stuff, but, if here in Germany are selling crank-up lanterns that also have a connector to power your cell phone without using a battery, I thought things would be more advanced on the solar panel area! But I guess also it all depends on the ammount of power you need... I think I'll have a Motorhome with the top filled with solar power cells! I'm still into day-dreaming! LOL!

I love solar power. We're not connected to the grid, we only have solar power. The panels for our house are big, but we have small panels we take with us on trips and even batteries to store power. The other two things you'd need is a charge controller so you don't overcharge the batteries and an inverter to go from DC to AC. I love not having that electric bill. (My husband is an electrician--he does a lot of solar power)
